Map each payroll data source
Document employee records, timekeeping, pay changes, deductions, benefits and accounting outputs. Ask who owns each field, when information transfers and how rejected or late records are handled. A provider should explain the workflow in operational terms rather than simply list available integrations.
Require testing and ongoing controls
Implementation should include data validation, permissions, test cases and parallel checks where appropriate. After launch, review correction procedures, tax notices, off-cycle payroll, audit history and report access. Employers generally retain important payroll-tax responsibilities and should maintain appropriate oversight.
